America's Answer to Jean-Paul Gaultier"

— Vanity Fair

Manolo has always seen magic where others see nothing. Cuban-born and self-taught, he moved effortlessly between high-end fashion and commissioned work, transforming found and unconventional materials into garments that balance elegance with raw ingenuity.

He dressed icons including Janet Jackson, Diana Ross, Björk, Britney Spears, and Celia Cruz. His work was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld and championed by legendary editors like Polly Mellen. Vanity Fair called him a “fashion fauve,” and The New Yorker featured him on its cover twice.

Today, Manolo works exclusively with recycled and repurposed materials.

The middle artwork is a portrait of a person with spiked hair, wearing a mask or face paint, in front of a window with blinds. The right artwork depicts a woman holding a child, with clouds and a outlined window or mirror in the background.

MANOLO’S JOURNAL

For Manolo, drawing is how memory is recorded. Each ink work REPRESENTS A MOMENT in time OF waiting, reflection, vulnerability, and care.
